Effects of Se Application on Polyamines and Carbon–Nitrogen Metabolism of Pepper Plants Suffering from Cd Toxicity

Previous studies have shown that the application of selenium (Se) can efficiently mitigate toxic effects cadmium (Cd) on various crops. The objective present work is to decipher mechanisms responsible for efficiency Se against Cd in pepper plants, with respect carbon and nitrogen metabolism. following were analyzed: concentrations anions related this metabolism, such as nitrates, nitrites, ammonium, activities different enzymes nitrate reductase, nitrite glutamate synthase, polyamines their forms, organic acid salts, amino acids, sugars leaf root tissues plants grown a hydroponics system. Four treatments applied: without or applied (?Cd/?Se); added nutrient solution (NS) but (+Cd/?Se); NS, foliar (+CD/+SeF); lastly, (+Cd/+SeR). metabolites metabolism analyzed 15 days after application. results showed superiority +Cd/+SeR treatment +Cd/+SeF treatment, by an increase conjugated polyamines, decrease phenylalanine, malate chlorogenic acid. indicated SeR decreased accumulation toxicity polyamine homeostasis improved, defense phenylpropanoid increased, entry into was blocked.
